GENE RANDALLGene Randall is CNN's national correspondent and fill-in anchor based in Washington DC. He covered the 1992 and 1988 elections for CNN, reporting on state primary and caucus results and both the Democratic and Republican national conventions. In addition to daily reports from the campaign trail, Randall contributes to Inside Politics, a half-hour weekday program devoted solely to coverage of political news that airs from 4 - 4:30 and 8:30 - 9 p.m. An experienced political reporter, Randall also covered the 1986 national elections and the 1984 presidential race. He joined CNN in October 1983. Randall came to CNN from NBC News, where he served as Moscow correspondent/bureau chief for three years. From 1976-1980, he was correspondent/anchor for WMAQ-TV, Chicago. Randall's report on "Currency Exchange Hostages" for WMAQ was honored with a Chicago Area Emmy for Best Spot News Story. He also contributed to NBC's Today Show during that time. Randall served as a reporter, anchor and talk show host for KTVI, St. Louis from 1974 - 1976, hosting the award-winning interview program, Face to Face. He also served as anchor/correspondent for WTVC-TV, Chattanooga, TN, and for WLWT-TV Cincinnati. He won a 1972 NATPE award for a documentary on tensions in the Middle East. Randall began his broadcast journalism career in 1962 as a newscaster and editor for Radio Press International, working at various times for its affiliates in Arlington, Virginia, White Plains, New York and Washington, DC. He received a B.A. in English from Georgetown University. |
