JACK GERMOND

CNN Political Analyst Jack Germond has been providing analysis for the network since the 1992 presidential campaign. He appears regularly on Inside Politics, which airs weekdays from 4 - 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 - 9 p.m. and Inside Politics Extra airing weekdays at 10 a.m. (ET).

He has been a newspaperman for more than 40 years and has been covering national politics since the 1960 election. Germond spent 20 years with the Gannett Newspapers, the final four as chief of their Washington bureau. He worked for eight years with The Washington Star and, since the Star folded in 1981, has been based in the Washington bureau of The Baltimore Sun.

With his partner, Jules Witcover, he writes a column, "Politics Today," syndicated five days a week by the Chicago Tribune syndicate. Germond and Witcover are the authors of Blue Smoke and Mirrors: How Reagan Won and Why Carter Lost the Election of 1980, published by Viking Press in 1981; Wake Us When it is Over: Presidential Politics of 1984, published by Macmillan in 1985; Whose Broad Stripes and Bright Stars? The Trivial Pursuit of the Presidency 1988, published by Warner Books in 1989; and Mad As Hell: Revolt at the Ballot Box 1992, also from Warner. They also write a weekly column for the National Journal.

Germond also appears on the political panel program, The McLaughlin Group. He is a native of Boston and a graduate of the University of Missouri with degrees in journalism and history.
