HANNAH BLOCHReporter Hannah Bloch joined TIME's Washington bureau as a general assignment reporter in April 1995. Before coming to Washington, Bloch worked for four years as a TIME reporter in New York, covering science, international affairs and the arts. She reported stories on medicine, population policy, the Mideast, education, sports and the environment. Her cover stories include articles on Vietnam, archaeology, behavior and religion. A July 1994 cover on attention deficit disorder that she reported was a National Magazine Award finalist. Born in New York City, Bloch grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received a B.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and holds master's degrees in journalism and international affairs from Columbia University, where she was an International Fellow. Before coming to TIME, Bloch served as an assistant press secretary in the U.S. Senate. She was also a research analyst in the Congressional Research Service's Foreign Affairs and National Defense section. As the recipient of a government-funded language fellowship, Bloch lived in Pakistan in 1989-90. She speaks Hindi, Urdu and French, and has a weakness for kung fu movies. |
