Democrat Locke projected winner in Washington Washington Democrat Gary Locke will become the first Asian-American governor in the contiguous 48 states, according to CNN estimates. Locke, the King County executive and the son of Chinese immigrants, beat out former GOP State Senator Ellen Craswell. Locke will take over for fellow Democrat Mike Lowry, who did not seek re-election. Full story Underwood Takes West Virginia Governor's Race Republican Cecil Underwood becomes both the oldest and youngest person ever elected governor of West Virginia, with CNN exit polls showing him narrowly defeating Democrat Charlotte Pritt Tuesday in the statewide race. Underwood was the youngest to hold the post when he was first elected in 1956, and turned 74 on Election Day to become the oldest.
