Another Worker Funneled Money To Dole Campaign

BOSTON (AllPolitics, April 22) -- Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan.) today formally requested that the Federal Elections Commission review his presidential campaign finances. Earlier, a fourth worker from Aqua-Leisure Industries came forward to say the company had reimbursed her for making contributions to the Dole campaign, which, if true, would be a violation of federal election law.

Dole campaign general counsel Douglas Wurth, in a letter to the F.E.C., wrote that the campaign "is concerned by those allegations and requests the Federal Election Commission to conduct an inquiry into their merits."

Though Dole has denied any knowledge of the scheme, reports surfaced in the Kansas City Star Sunday that thousands of dollars were contributed to Dole's campaign coffers by workers at the Massachusetts sporting goods company. Three workers, who requested anonymity, said they had been given stacks of $100 bills and instructed to write checks to the Dole campaign. Later, they recounted, they were paid $4,000 by the company.

"I don't know anything about it," Dole said Sunday. A spokesman for his campaign said: "Those individuals with concerns along these lines should address them to the FEC (Federal Election Commission)." (192K WAV sound)

Aqua-Leisure is run by Simon Fireman, national vice chairman of finance for the Dole campaign. Lawyers for his company have denied the allegations.
