Sen. Kerrey May Return To Business

LINCOLN, Neb. (Allpolitics, April 26) -- For Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.), a return to the private sector is starting to look good after four years as governor, almost two terms in the Senate, and a stint as one of the best fundraisers Senate Democrats have ever had.

"I'll be 57 at the end of my term and will have served 16 full years in public service," the Nebraskan told the Associated Press Thursday. His second term expires in 2000, and though he hasn't ruled out another Senate run or a bid for the presidency, Kerrey said his "inclination" is to return to the private sector.

Kerrey's success as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has led some to talk of his entering the next presidential race. Though Kerrey's 1992 presidential bid was lackluster, he's earned widespread Democratic praise for raising a record $15 million despite Democrats' minority status in the Senate.
