Nigerians Plan Protest
CHICAGO (AllPolitics, Aug. 23) -- A Nigerian pro-democracy group plans to protest Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun's speech to the Democratic National Convention next week. The organization, called Nigerians for Democracy, is upset over Moseley-Braun's visit with Nigerian strongman Gen. Sani Abacha earlier this month. The group will picket Moseley-Braun's Illinois office during her talk to protest her visit to the country and support for "a drug-dealing, murderous regime," Anthony Omotosho, told The Associated Press. Moseley-Braun, however, said the meeting was "not tantamount to an endorsement of the government."

Talking About HIV/AIDS
CHICAGO (AllPolitics, Aug. 23) -- One of the late additions to the speakers list for next week's Democratic convention is Debbie Runions, who serves on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. Runions, who teaches schoolchildren about the epidemic, will speak on Tuesday. Runions said the White House contacted her Thursday night. The Republicans also included an AIDS speaker at their San Diego convention earlier this month.
