Clinton Arrives In Chicagoland

The Clintons

CHICAGO (AllPolitics, Aug. 28) -- President Bill Clinton helicoptered tonight into the city where he will be nominated for a second term, and he promised "the best is yet to come."

Clinton was greeted by his wife Hillary, daughter Chelsea and Mayor Richard M. Daley after his helicopter landed on a college campus.

The president had considered making a brief appearance at the United Center, then decided instead to rest after his four-day campaign trip through the Midwest.

"We're on the right track to the 21st century, and that's what this convention and this campaign is all about," Clinton told a campus rally.

"To all of you who've been here, to all of those who've spoken (at the convention), I have been immensely proud of everything I've seen," Clinton said. "I followed all of the proceedings as well as I could. I've been up too late watching the replays to see what everyone said and what everyone did.

"And I don't want to give my speech tomorrow night here tonight, but just let me say, the best is yet to come, the best days of America, the best days of the Clinton-Gore Administration, the best days of our efforts together to lift up our country and move forward."
