Bosnian Elections
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Aug. 30) -- Republican presidential candidate Robert Dole has called for postponement of next month's Bosnian elections. In a letter to President Bill Clinton, Dole said proceeding with the elections would be a mistake, because of the prospects for intimidation and the difficulty of refugees getting to their homes to vote. Softening Welfare Bill's Impact
CHICAGO (AllPolitics, Aug. 30) -- President Bill Clinton is proposing a $3.4 billion initiative to help people on welfare obtain jobs. The most expensive part of the proposal calls for a $3 billion program over three years to provide up to $3,000 for each job created for a welfare recipient. The aim is to place one million of the hardest-to-place recipients in jobs by the year 2000. The White House is also calling for a $383 million targeted tax credit for employers who hire welfare recipients through the
year 2000.
