Poll Says Gore Clear Winner In DebatesBy Justin C. Oppmann/AllPolitics ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AllPolitics, Oct. 10) -- Vice President Al Gore was the clear winner of Wednesday's debate against Republican challenger Jack Kemp -- 57 percent to 28 percent -- according to a flash CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 408 viewers conducted in the half hour following the debate. Before the debate, 49 percent of those surveyed felt that Gore would make a better President -- vs. 46 percent for Kemp -- but after the debate, the gap grew to 53 percent for Gore and 41 percent for Kemp. Gore was also voted most likable by a 46-38 margin, and better informed, 53 to 27 percent. But the always-exciting Kemp swamped Gore in the "more exciting" category, 53 to 31 percent. |
