Racicot Wins Second Term as Governor

Racicot

HELENA, Mont. (AllPolitics, November 6) -- Montana voters appear to be happy with their governor.

With 35 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Gov. Marc Racicot was easily defeating Democratic challenger Judy Jacobson 103,758 votes to 24,825 votes.

Though the margin mirrored what Racicot's lead has looked like since the campaign began, he said Tuesday night he wouldn't slow down just because of a lopsided victory.

"I intend to work as hard as I possibly can to address issues of vital importance whether or not it's strong or marginal," he said. "I plan to continue moving with the same force."

Jacobson became the unexpected Democratic nominee two weeks before the election when the nominee, Chet Blaylock, died of a heart attack.

"The tragedy involving Chet's death left me feeling a little bit hollow," Racicot said. "I can tell you there's a sense of loss that hasn't left."

Jacobson said she isn't bitter. "This race was never about the polls. It was not even about the results tonight. It was about getting out there and talking with the people about issues that we think mainstream Montanans care about."
