North Dakota Republican Wins Handily
BISMARCK, N.D. (AllPolitics, Nov. 6) -- Ed Schafer retained the North Dakota governorship in a landslide win over Democratic challenger Lee Kaldor. Kaldor, a state legislator running his first statewide campaign, never seriously challenged Schafer. "This is a an amazing moment, a wonderful moment," Schafer said at his victory party. "I know some of you might find this hard to believe, but it is a moment of great relief." Schafer's victory -- the vote was holding close to 64 percent -- is likely to be the largest since Republican Norman Brunsdale's victory with 66 percent of the vote in 1950. |
