Utah: Leavitt Appears Headed for Record Win
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AllPolitics Nov. 6) -- Utah Governor Mike Leavitt got across-the-board support from voters Tuesday night as he cruised to victory over Democrat Jim Bradley. With 39 percent of the vote in, Leavitt had 73 percent to Bradley's 25 percent. If the spread stays the same, Leavitt is headed for a record-setting victory. Former Democratic Governor Calvin Rampton won with 69.7 percent of the vote in 1972. According to polling, 86 percent of the voters who said they are financially worse off than four years ago said they backed Leavitt. The incumbent topped that off with support from 40 percent of the voters who indicated they were either doing better financially or about the same. Leavitt led Bradley among all age and income categories, and about three quarters of both men and women picked Leavitt. |
