HOW THEY'RE RATED: Eighty-two MBA schools in Asia were asked to rate each other, but not themselves, on a scale of 1 (inadequate) to 5 (world-class) on academic reputation. Eight international business schools also gave ratings: Anderson School at UCLA, Haas School of Business, IMD, INSEAD, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Richard Ivey School of Business,Rotterdam School of Management and Wharton School. In addition, 130 Asian companies were asked to rate the MBA schools in their country. The respondents were asked not to give a grade if they felt they had no basis for making a judgment. The ratings for each school were totaled and divided by the number of respondents that gave grades for the particular school - those that abstained were not included. Fifty-three Asian MBA schools responded. The Australian National University (Australia Asia Management Centre) withdrew because it felt some of the questions were inappropriate and commercially sensitive. New Zealand's Massey University and Thailand's Prince of Songkla University did not submit enough information for Asiaweek to make a fair determination of the quality of their programs. The following MBA schools did not participate. Australia: University of New South Wales and University of Sydney (Australian Graduate School of Management). Bangladesh: Jahangirnagar University. China: Shanghai Jiaotong University. Hong Kong: Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. India: Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research. Indonesia: University of Diponegoro. Macau: University of Macau. New Zealand: University of Otago, Canterbury School of Management. Pakistan: Karachi University. Philippines: Ateneo Graduate School of Business. South Korea: Chonnam National University, Pusan National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University. Taiwan: Central University, Chiao Tung University, Sun Yat Sen University, Cheng Kung University, Taiwan University. Thailand: Mahidol University, Kasetsart University, Thammasat University.
