Pop icons take a pop quiz Programming skills are not part of the job requirements when you are a mega-entertainer beloved by millions. But if you are taking on the Internet, how about displaying a little basic IT knowledge? Asiaweek lobbed softballs at Indian tennis pro Mahesh Bhupathi, Philippine actress Sharon Cuneta, Hong Kong singer and actor Leon Lai Ming, Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, and Thai singer Tata Young: 1) What is an ISP? Bhupathi: Some kind of modem connection. Cuneta: Internet Service Provider! Okay! Lai: International Service Provider. Shu: I don't know. Young: ISP? ISP? God, what is ISP? Pass. 2) What is the U.S. Justice Department trying to do to Microsoft? Bhupathi: Break it up into pieces. I own Microsoft stock. Cuneta: I was following that [story] up to the point of someone accusing Bill Gates of a monopoly, but now I'm oblivious. Lai: Microsoft? Shu: Raise interest rates? Young: I've heard about this but I wasn't paying attention. This is bad for me. Pass. 3) Who is Lara Croft? Bhupathi: A model? Cuneta: Who? I have no idea. I don't play video games. Lai: I don't know. Shu: I really don't know anything about IT. Young: Tomb Raider? A producer once wanted me to dress like her in a music video. Hello? I'm a singer, not a geek video game girl. It must be a guy thing. 4) To listen to music, which kind of file do you use? A) JPEG B) PDF C) MP3 Bhupathi: MP3. Cuneta: My daughter has MP3. So that's it. But I don't really listen to music on the Net. Lai: MP3. Shu: I have never heard of any of the above. I'm really moronic about technology. Young: You use MP3. I knew that, thank God.
