The American Movie Channel is planning a birthday celebration for America's favorite "little princess," Shirley Temple. On Tuesday, Marisa Tomei will host a day-long marathon of the child star's films, including "Little Princess," "Heidi" and "Curly Top."
The fact-based NBC series "Unsolved Mysteries" has spun off a TV movie called "Voice from the Grave." Kevin Ward, formerly of "Knots Landing," stars in the film.
The world of high-tech animation is heading for children's television. Claster Animation is kicking off "Beast Wars" with a miniseries this spring. The animated action series is being created by the same artists who did the futuristic "Reboot". ![]()
Filmmaker and occasional muppet Frank Oz has a new project. The Hollywood Reporter says Oz will direct "In and Out," a comedy starring Kevin Kline. Along with his career as a filmmaker, Oz is part of the Henson "Muppet" organization as the driving force behind Ms. Piggy.
Actress Alfre Woodard is busy. The Hollywood Reporter says Woodard will star in a remake of the Carson McCuller novel "Member of the Wedding" for USA Network. Woodard also is starring in an HBO production of "Miss Ever's Boys," a controversial drama co-starring Laurence Fishburne. She's still working on "Star Trek, Generations Two," which is filming in Los Angeles. ![]()
She's spent years performing on stage; now Naomi Judd will try a television sitcom. The retired country singer will make a guest appearance on "Third Rock From the Sun" on NBC during the May sweeps period. The episode airs May 7. ![]()
Actress Meg Ryan may co-star in the new romantic comedy "Addicted to Love," which is to begin shooting in August. The actress is reportedly still negotiating the deal. The Hollywood Reporter says Griffin Dunne is the director.
The Walt Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast" will soon have a sequel. Walt Disney Animation International has begun work on "Beauty and the Beast-Christmas Belle." Most of the production is being filmed in Canada. The story takes place within the time period of the original "Beauty." ![]()
Rocker Sting is preparing for a summer tour. The singer will kick off the tour in West Palm Beach, Florida, on June 21 to promote his new album, "Mercury Falling." Natalie Merchant, who also is promoting a new album, will be the opening act.
Actor Michael Madsen took a long trip to the altar, but hasn't had much of a honeymoon. Madsen married longtime girlfriend Deanna Morgan while on vacation in Jamaica. The wedding took place last Monday. By Wednesday, the actor was back in Los Angeles working on "Donnie Brasco" with Al Pacino and Johnny Depp.
Sandra Bernhard's new movie is wrapped up. Production is over on "Somewhere in the City," a bittersweet comedy set in New York's East Village. The film still has no distributor.
Alanis Morrisette continues to reign on Billboard magazine's albums chart. The singer's "Jagged Little Pill" is No. 1 for yet another week.
