NEW YORK (AP) -- Jerry Seinfeld is still tops with TV
viewers. For the second consecutive year, the comic and star
of NBC's "Seinfeld" is No. 1 on the list of the nation's most
popular television personalities, according to a Harris Poll
released Wednesday. The next three positions look the same as
last year's list, too. Comedian Tim Allen of ABC's "Home
Improvement" repeats in second place, followed by Oprah
Winfrey and Bill Cosby. Rosie O'Donnell moves up from eighth
to fifth place on this year's list, and Drew Carey is up from
No. 10 to sixth place. David Letterman slipped two spots to
seventh place, one spot ahead of Jay Leno, who moved up from
a tie at No. 10 last year. The poll of 1,010 people was
conducted between November 19 and 23.
Kuralt's widow donates office to his alma mater
CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (AP) -- Charles Kuralt's office,
from the wood-beamed ceilings to the mahogany bookshelves,
went on the road to North Carolina. The three-room penthouse
suite was disassembled and moved this month from New York
City to a climate-controlled storage unit near the campus of
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kuralt's
widow, Petie, donated the rooms to his alma mater for a
future exhibit. Among the furnishings are Oriental rugs,
paneled walls, a brick fireplace, floor-to-ceiling mahogany
shelves lined with books, antique furniture, 13 Emmys and
three Peabody awards won by the former CBS newsman known for
his "On the Road" reports. Visitors to the Kuralt Center --
tentatively scheduled to open in mid-1999 -- will be able to
view Kuralt's TV programs, which also include "CBS Sunday
Morning." Kuralt, a Wilmington native who attended the
university from 1951 to 1954, died July 4 at age 62.

HOUSTON (AP) -- The owners of the Astrodome are suing the
promoters of the Three Tenors World Tour over a concert that
was canceled in March. Astrodome U.S.A. accuses the
promoters, Dur United Entertainment Inc., of failing to pay a
$350,000 cancellation fee. Sound system problems were blamed
for the cancellation of the Houston concert with tenors
Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. But
only an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 of the 67,000 tickets,
ranging in price from $50 to $2,500, had been sold when the
show was canceled. It was never rescheduled. The promoters
could not be reached for comment Tuesday, because their
office was closed for the holidays.
