LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: Bill Tush, what's going on in show business?

BILL TUSH, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Lou and Natalie and everyone at home, at the movie theaters this weekend, audiences had a need for speed, while Eddie Murphy's "Dr. Dolittle" sequel didn't do little. Here's a look at the weekend's top films.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over): "The Fast and the Furious" drove a minor frenzy at the box office this weekend. The fuel-injected flick crossed the finish line far ahead of the competition with an estimated ticket sales of $41.6 million.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "DR. DOLITTLE 2")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Dr. Dolittle, I presume.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TUSH: The debut of newest "Dr. Dolittle" did more than a little business in theaters. "Dr. Dolittle 2," starring Eddie Murphy and a menagerie of comic animals, collected an estimated $26.7 million for second place.

Last week's champ, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," slipped to No. 3 with $20.2 million.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "ATLANTIS")

MICHAEL J. FOX, ACTOR: Just follow my lead.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TUSH: Two cartoons rounded out the top five. Disney's "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" landed in fourth with an estimated $13.2 million. And that animated ogre "Shrek" stepped into fifth place, earning another $11 million this weekend.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK) TUSH: Batman had Alfred. 007 had Q. Lara Croft? Well, she's got Bryce. In "Tomb Raider," Angelina Jolie gets by with a lot of help from her friends, especially that techno geek played by Noah Taylor; the actor who shined in "Shine" and got a little more famous in "Almost Famous" landed the role as Jolie's trusted sidekick.

Paul Vercammen caught up with Taylor.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NOAH TAYLOR, ACTOR: I've been accepted into the Royal College of Music.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VERCAMMEN: Quirky Noah Taylor embodied the adolescent David Helfgott in "Shine," in 1996.

TAYLOR: I do seem to have youthful looks, and it's certainly not due to a particularly healthy lifestyle.

VERCAMMEN: Taylor is almost 32 years old, born in England, raised in Australia, doesn't drive a car, and just bought his first cell phone.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANGELINA JOLIE, ACTOR: Bryce, you have to be my eyes.

TAYLOR: Are you armed?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VERCAMMEN: In "Tomb Raider," Taylor plays Angelina Jolie's computer whiz sidekick.

TAYLOR: It's not a case of having actually to be a sort of technically minded person. It's more about knowing about being obsessive, and I'm a quite obsessive person. I'm just not in that field. I just tried to apply my own neurosis into a different field.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TAYLOR: You want to buy a gate?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VERCAMMEN: Taylor played the band Stillwater's manager in "Almost Famous." He's a rock 'n' roll junkie hooked an AC/DC.

TAYLOR: This actually just shows how old I am, really. This is the 1986 North American Who Made Who AC/DC T-shirt.

VERCAMMEN: Taylor's "Tomb Raider" character lives in cramped quarters.

(on camera): Would you be the type to live in a mobile home?

TAYLOR: Yes, I have lived in something a bit similar to that, once in the country, for a long time.

VERCAMMEN: Was it a trailer?

TAYLOR: It wasn't a trailer. It was a sort of a shack. If you put wheels on it, it would have been a trailer.

VERCAMMEN (voice-over): Perhaps the eccentricity helped Taylor in his "Shine" role. Geoffrey Rush won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the older Helfgott, and critics also praised Taylor's performance.

TAYLOR: Although it would be lovely to win an Oscar, because it sort of jacks your price up, and everything like that, to me its the end of real freedom in your life. It puts you squarely in the public domain.

VERCAMMEN: Taylor prefers to lay low and rock on.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TAYLOR: Ladies and gentlemen, this evening is over. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves, and we'll see you again in 1974.

(END VIDEO CLIP)
