SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Jeans manufacturer Levi Strauss and Co. is pulling an ad campaign that some critics said encouraged vandalism.
Wednesday's decision to remove the ads in San Francisco came after New York City officials pulled the "Nice Pants" ads from bus shelters throughout the city.
The ad featured a $50 pair of khakis behind a plastic cover. If, and when, the pants were stolen, an outline of the khakis would remain with the words, "apparently they were very nice pants."
New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said the ads sent the wrong message to people. One pair reportedly was stolen in New York. At least three pairs were stolen from bus shelters in San Francisco.
