Almost 14 percent of all working whites and more than 37 percent of all employed African-Americans make less than $15,000 a year.
The median household income for white American families is $39,308. It is $21,548 for African-Americans.
Almost 36 percent of all African-American households and 10 percent of all white households are single-parent homes.
The unemployment rate for African-Americans is 11.5 percent, compared to 5.3 percent for white Americans.
