Text of letter Terry Murphy, chairman of the Radio-Television Correspondents' Association sent to President Clinton Friday:

Dear Mr. President,

Members of the Executive Committee of the Radio-TV Correspondents' Association believe that courtesy, civility and respect are a necessary part of responsible democracy.

Humor and satire have a place in political life and can be entertaining without being offensive. As your hosts at the annual dinner, we regret putting you and the First Lady in the position of having to endure embarrassment.

We hope that you will be our guests for a more enjoyable evening at future dinners.
